Martin Benavides obtained a PhD in Sociology at Pennsylvania State University in 2002, where he also obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Policies in 1999. He has been a visiting student at Nuffield College, Oxford, and he has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the Catholic University of Lima. He is Executive Director and Senior Researcher at GRADE, and Professor of the Department of Social Sciences at The Catholic University of Lima. He has published several papers on education, social stratification and social classes, and youth. He was Fellow of the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford (2007-08), and he is an affiliate of the Stanford Center for the Study of Poverty and Inequality. He specializes in stratification and social change, sociology of education, citizenship, educational policy and youth.
