Alexander Mitterle is a visiting Scholar at the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University. He studied Political Science, Economics and History in Leipzig and Paris and obtained a Magister degree from Leipzig University in 2010. He is a research associate at the institute for higher education research at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and since 2012 part of a German Science Foundation funded research group on “mechanisms of elite education in the German educational sector”. Hereby he focuses on the micro-level development of field-stratification in German higher education, notably through the private education sector. He also is involved in research projects that analyze the structure of teaching in German higher education and educational policy interaction.
